Undergraduate Opportunities
Please take time to search for opportunities that are not listed here! There are many programs out there, and they often have different eligibility criteria and application processes.
Usually, application deadlines are a half year before the start of the program, so it's good to start looking for opportunities early and keep track of deadlines.
-
US Quantum Information Science Summer School (USQIS)
— summer school hosted by the DOE National Quantum Information Science Research Centers;
open to junior/senior undergraduates and above. In the year I applied, international students were also eligible.
-
Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF)
— There are many SURF programs across the country, and they are often hosted by universities or research institutions.
They typically provide funding for undergraduates to conduct research during the summer, often with a faculty mentor.
Eligibility criteria and application processes may vary, so it's important to check the specific requirements of each program.
Applying external SURF programs are strongly recommended!!! especially for internatonal students who are not eligible for REU and SURI!!!
E.g. MIT, Harvard, Stanford, Caltech, etc. have their own SURF programs, and they often accept applications from international students.
- Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)

- Summer Undergraduate Research Internship (SURI)
— a summer research internship for U.S. citizens and permanent residents.
